Polyolefin Plastomers as Sealants in Packaging Applications, 1993 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
L. K. Mergenhagen, N. F. Whiteman
A new family of ethylene/octene copolymers with outstanding seal performance has been developed for flexible packaging applications. These polymers, referred to as ‘polyolefin plastomers’, are produced utilizing Dow’s unique INSITE’ Technology. Dow polyolefin plastomers may contain up to 20 weight percent comonomer and are characterized by narrow molecular weight and comonomer distributions and long chain branching. In this report, polyolefin plastomer performance properties (abuse resistance, optical properties, and sealing characteristics) are reviewed and compared to the performance of other specialty copolymers.
