Improved LLDPE Film Performance Via Alternative Bubble Shape, 1996 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
One of the major challenges to increasing LLDPE blown film extrusion rates lies in its melt strength limitations. Numerous advancements in the cooling of LLDPE blown film bubbles to achieve higher rates have been made and well publicized over the last 15 years. However, less time and study have been devoted to develop and evaluate different LLDPE bubble shapes and their effect on film properties. This paper reviews how valuable improvements in film properties, as well as output rate, are possible with a modified bubble shape using a dual-lip air ring with an “iris box” assembly in the blown film extrusion of new high performance LLDPE resins.
