New Autogauge Airring for Blown Film, 1996 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

A new autogauge airring uses capacitive sensors to monitor the bubble gauge distribution, then minimizes this distribution variation through adjustment of the primary air gap in the airring. This gap adjustment is performed locally around the airring, giving discrete control zones, which although adjusted individually, act together to minimize the gauge distribution. Field test results are presented. Finally, the limits of the autogauge’s abilities will be analyzed, both in terms of the minimum gauge distribution possible, and in terms of the system response time.
