UV Inks in Use as a Film Supplier What Makes Them Work, What Are the Current Limitations, 1997 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

In the past ten years, pressure sensitive film use for package decoration has increased dramatically. It has replaced traditional decorating techniques (heat transfer, glue-applied, and ceramic labeling) in personal care products, health and beauty aids, and even beverage containers. The largest area of growth has been in the polyolefin family. These films inherently have low surface energies, making it very difficult to attain good ink adhesion. This paper discusses the history, technology and advantages to using topcoated films for printing.
