Overview of the Hidden Minerals of Polymer Applications, 1997 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

For many years, minerals have been used in a wide variety of polymer applications. Minerals have been considered by many in the polymer industry as fillers or cost reducers with limited regard to the actual property enhancements they impart. In many respects, they have been hidden from the view, not only of the final consumer of plastic products, but of the design engineer as well. This paper will try to give a brief overview of the properties, value enhancements, and benefits imparted by the use of these ‘hidden’ minerals.
