Evaluation of Coated Ground Calcium Carbonate in Linear Low Density Polyethylene Film, 1997 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
This paper is part of an ongoing study of the value-added performance brought about by the addition of organophilic minerals to polyolefins. This work deals specifically with the enhanced physical performance of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blown films with the addition of high levels of a film grade calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ). The work demonstrates some clear advantages with the addition of over 20% by weight of CaCO 3 to blown film. If clarity, haze, and gloss are not critical to the application and a drop in tensile strength is tolerable to the film in question; then substantial improvements in impact, puncture, tear, coefficient of friction (COF), sealability, corona treatment, printability, and processability can be obtained by the addition of FILMLINK 400®.
