Unique Approach to the Quality Control of Packaging Materials Through Aroma Analysis, 1997 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
The packaging material for any number of products including food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals is designed to protect that product from contaminants until it is opened by a consumer. If that packaging material is tainted by the coating, printing ink or adhesive used in its manufacture, it can affect the material it contains and in turn affect the perceived quality of the product.
In combination with human sensory evaluation, the AromaScan Digital Aroma Analysis System can be employed to discriminate between acceptable and unacceptable odor levels in packaging. Used in a quality control environment, the aroma detector can successfully discriminate sample types including plastic packaging, paperboard packaging as well as the ink, adhesives and coating materials used in their production.
The digital aroma analyzer utilizes conducting polymer technology.
