My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
Ongoing industrial needs and nowadays also more restrictive legislative regulations (i.e. German Verpackungsverordnung” ) indicate the necessity to initiate new material developments to reach the same or even higher material functionalities with drastically reduced material input. At Fh-ILV we have specialized on developing new materials and processes related to coextrusion, coating and lamination. The competence of the Fh-ISC is the development of glassy, ceramic and hybrid polymeric (ORMOCER) materials via sol-gel processing and their characterisation. According to the examples “ vacuum web coating with transparent barriers” and “ lamination with ORMOCER”’ (ORMOCERs are inorganic-organic hybrid polymers useful as coating materials or as adhesives with excellent barrier properties) the potential of these new developments will be discussed.
