My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
A large segment of the polyethylene blown film extrusion market continues to look for downgauge opportunities. As LLDPE is downgauged. converters require a higher degree of stiffness to maintain ease of downstream conversion without sacrificing physical properties. This study investigates the use of MMW-HDPE in various coextrusion and blend structures to meet this requirement. Benefits of these structures covers a wide range of applications including heavy wall bags, can liners, overwrap, and specialty packing. Resins included in the study are metallocene catalyzed LLDPEs and bi-modal HDPE.
