Effect of Film Additives on Printing, 1998 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
The generic category of chemical materials known as film additives are items which can be both benefits and detractors, savior and Satan, Jekyll and Hyde, all at the same time. The printer who has chosen to pursue the path of water ink technology in his operation has run headlong into the paradox created by film additives. Running the gamut from slip packages to anti block materials and everything in between, these products take on the role of necessary evil for the film printer. What we will explore in this presentation is essentially three-fold: (1) what film additives are, what functions they perform and what properties they provide; (2) the printing difficulties created by the resence of such additives; and (3) what can and is being done by both the printer and others to effectively combat and resolve those difficulties.
