LLDPE Resin Considerations for Optimal Grooved-Feed Blown Film Extrusion, 1998 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Most conventional extruders designed for LLDPE blown film use smooth-bore barrels. However, grooved feed barrel designs, which have been widely used for HMW high density polyethylene film and some polypropylene extrusion, are now being promoted to increase LLDPE extrusion rates. While this design does indeed provide some extrusion advantages, its response to basic LLDPE resin characteristics is less well known. The objective of this paper is to present the effects of basic resin parameters of a high strength blown film grade LLDPE on grooved feed extrusion processability and how these process changes subsequently affect key film properties.
