An unwind guide shifts the unwind roll stand laterally to position the web edge at a predetermined position. A Shifting Idler is required to maintain a constant web plane as the roll unwinds. The sensor should be placed as close to the shifting idler as possible and fixed. There should be no more than one web width to the first fixed idler in the process.
