Understanding Coefficient of Friction in Coextruded Films, 1998 Polymers, Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
A designed experiment was conducted to examine changes in the coefficient of friction (COF) of a coextruded film as a function of time and temperature. Three layer coextruded films were fabricated using a sodium ionomer and low density polyethylene with selected amounts of an amide slip additive incorporated in either of the polymers. The films were stored under different environmental conditions. Over a four week period, the COF values were measured, and it was concluded that the COF of the film showed less variability if the slip additive was present in the more polar ionomer layer, versus the polyolefin layer.
