Progressive Ink
Proven solvent and water base ink systems are available for single ply and laminated film structures. Printing by flexo and gravure on commercially available plastic films is now fairly routine. Successful use of inks for plastic films is helped by an understanding of the various ink components and how they relate to properties of the ink system in actual use. This knowledge of ink technology will assist the converter and cosuppliers to the printing and converting processes, in designing integrated systems for the inkroom, the press and for finishing operations. There are measurable and predictable relationships between ink composition, ink density, ink film thickness, anilox configuration, solvent retention and end use properties, which facilitate system design.
