A new film stretching technology is introduced, where simultaneously film stretching with the help of linear motors has been achieved. With this technology new property profiles for all stretchable plastic films can be generated. This is explained with the example of Simultaneously Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene films (S-BOPP).
Thereby the development strategy will also be introduced, in which, in the first instance, basic tests with a lab extruder and a discontinuous lab stretcher are done. The continuous process has been achieved by a lab line with 1.2 m width which is recently in operation. With that equipment initial test runs were made at a newly built technology center. The results of those tests are presented in the following paper. It has been proven that the mechanical properties in machine direction compared with the sequential stretching process could be increased by 70 %. The great flexibility of the process makes property profiles possible that can be varied in a large scope, which is illustrated with polar diagrams of the mechanical properties.
