Extrusion Coating Polyester, 2001 Polymers Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings
Diane H. Farnham, Bruce W. Foster--Polyester plastics are useful in packaging applications because of their unique set of physical properties, including toughness, heat resistance, grease resistance, oxygen barrier, printability, heat seal, and low odor and taste. When these good properties are combined with the advantages that come from extrusion coated structures, some truly unique, high-performance packaging structures can be produced. However, the same chemistry behind these excellent physical properties requires a significantly different set of handling and processing conditions when compared to a more familiar extrusion coating resin, such as polyethylene. But, if we understand these differences and apply this knowledge with some practice and patience, polyester will extrusion coat.
