Flexible Packaging - An Overview, 2001 Polymers Laminations & Coatings Conference Proceedings

Dean A. Zimmerman--The market for flexible packaging continues to grow due to materials and process developments. This paper presents an overview of flexible barrier packaging and recent developments. Barrier properties of resins are reviewed including the effect of the environment, crystallinity, defects and film orientation. Newer barrier materials including nanocomposites, nylon MXD6, cyclic olefin copolymers (COC), thermoplastic epoxies and liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) are discussed.
