L. Cribbs--Requirements for film resins are becoming increasingly complex with specifications that are sometimes conflicting in nature. For some bag applications, the film is expected to maintain excellent tear properties at thin gauge and have a soft feel, or yield a very stiff film with high quality optics. These and other product needs may be met with coextrusion of high molecular weight high density polyethylene (HMW-HDPE) with other polyolefins to provide the secondary product requirement. With HMW-HDPE as the primary or core layer, strength and ability to down- gauge are maintained while providing the required improvements from the secondary polymers.
