A Simple Alternative to Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymers (EVA’s) for Produce and Packaging Films, 2003 PLACE Conference & GLOBAL HOT MELT Symposium

Ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers (EVA’s) have historically been used to provide seal strength and good gloss in packaging for carrots, lettuce and grapes. It is possible to obtain the same optical properties and increased sealing properties through the use of clarity and enhanced clarity linear low density polyethylenes. This paper presents structures that offer more options to the film converter and that are more economical. The paper will present data from several “simple” coextruded structures, comparing the properties of these structures to more conventional EVA coextrusions.
