A China Perspective, 2003 PLACE Conference & GLOBAL HOT MELT Symposium
The adhesive industry in China has shown an amazing average of 10% annual growth over the past 10
years. This percentage has not dropped below 8% nor was it compromised even during the Asian Economic
Crisis of 1997-1998. Growth for 2003 is expected to slow to near 7% as China’s biggest market customer
for its export goods, the United States, continues to experience a recession thus reducing imports from
China. Only a small part (20%) of the China geography has been exposed to the economic development
of ”Modern China”. In spite of this seemingly small percentage of participation, China’s GDP, now ranked
11th, will soon become the 4th largest economy after the USA, Japan and Germany.
