On the one hand multilayer structures, that take advantage of the best properties of each component, are state of art for sophisticated end-products, on the other hand raw material selections by comparing the melt index of the different materials only, often result in flow-problems and visible defects in the product. This paper shows, how a machinery supplier applies different simulation principles to select raw materials for coextrusion in daily work. After some examples of coextrusion structures and applications, the machinery and rheological principles of coextrusion are described, finally a case study of the production of a 5-layer structure film before and after rheological optimization is explained.
