High Performance Impingement paper Drying Using Pulse Combustion Technology, 2003 Spring Technical Conference Proceedings

The application of pulse combustion-based jet impingement to paper is addressed. Pulse combustion impingement can produce significantly higher drying rates in comparison to steady flow impingement. The performance of three different systems, under various operating conditions, was evaluated. Some operating conditions were compared to mechanically pulsed air and steady flow impingement. Pulse combustion impingement used for paper drying can produce significantly higher drying rates; however, performance depends on the pulse combustor configuration, the impingement nozzle geometry, the substrate supporting the sheet, and the presence or absence of vacuum.
