POMix - A Compact Stock Processor, 2002 Technology Summit Proceedings
P. O. Meinander, R. Nykanen & D. R. Forbes -- Conventional stock blending and metering systems consist of large mix chests and machine chests for the blending and mixing of multiple furnishes and wet end additives. These chests also level out some of the variations due to poor consistency control and variable raw material. The resultant stability is somewhat acceptable but due to the large volumes, controllability of rate changes is generally poor and losses with grade changes can be significant. The large chests take up a lot of space and poor agitation can result in short circuiting of stock.
A patented, compact stock blending and metering processor replaces the conventional mixing and machine chests with a single, space efficient unit.
This paper introduces the compact stock processor for high intensity mixing of multiple stock furnishes and wet end additives in a single, compact unit. Process volumes equal only 10% of conventional systems, allowing quick and accurate rate or grade changes as required.
The design features of the compact stock processor are presented. Technical issues are discussed, along with control strategy and applications.
