The problem: In a paper mill, one of the paper machines is not performing well. The quality is not good enough, and the machine often breaks. The production and maintenance people decide to check the electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation components. Still, the problems remain.
This paper will describe this real case: events, money invested, problems found, methods, and results. A return on investment will be computed. Economics and human considerations will be discussed when optimizing a system.
