Use of Synthetic Polymers to Enhance Sheet Strength and Improve Machine Efficiency, 2002 Technology Summit Proceedings

 

Strength is one of the fundamental properties of linerboard. Strength derived from the cellulose fibers themselves and the multitude of interfiber (predominantly) hydrogen bonds formed during sheet consolidation is impressive. However, many paper and board grades demand much more. The use of synthetic resins based on polyamide chemistry not only increases the strength of these bonds but also takes an active role in the dewatering process. This provides papermaker with an additional effective tool to improve the overall production process.
