Adhesion with purpose: The value of primers in sustainable flexible packaging, TAPPI Journal July 2025
Application: One of the most common issues associated with using biodegradable materials in flexible packaging
is poor adhesion between the biodegradable and other parts of the structure. This paper focuses on solutions
based on water-based primers to address adhesion issues caused by factors such as fast crystallization, secondary
crystallization, and low processing temperature that are normally associated with biodegradable materials. Readers
from the packaging industry who practice with biodegradable materials and experience similar issues can implement
these findings into their product development.
